Description
KNOWLEDGE BUILDING IN AN ONLINE COHORT Studies of face-to-face, blended, and online graduate education cohorts have established the importance of a cohort model to the learning process (Conrad, 2005; Maher, 2005; Wenzlaff & Wieseman, 2004). Lawrence (2002) defined a cohort as "a small group of learners who complete an entire program of study as a single unit" (p. 83). Due to its close-knit nature, a cohort has a strong potential to become a learning community whose members acquire, use, and share their collective knowledge (Brown & Duguid, 2000). How does an online cohort in a master's program, comprised of teachers from the same school district who were approached to complete a degree in instructional technology, construct knowledge?
